Intro to Electronics

(MECP)(MESA) (IE-101, IE-102, IE-103, IE-104)

This course prepares you for a successful completion of the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Basic Installer Test. The MECP certificate/license is required for employment with major retailers across the nation. With this course your foundation is established by providing you with the knowledge to excel in future courses, as well as when you are attending the many of the 12 volt manufacturers seminars that are offered to retailers. This course includes detailed information about how electronics work.  We will be studying Ohms Law and Kirchoff’s Voltage Law along with other electrical laws, and how these laws apply to the mobile electronics industry. We will also be covering electrical, audio, and security components used in the industry, and their usages.  Other subjects covered will be electrical and acoustic measurements and their applications, basic troubleshooting and analysis, installation techniques, tool safety, and operations, shop safety and introduction to auto sound. There will be a three-hour MECP test given in addition to the normal practice test to finalize your grade for this week. The MECP study guide, Acoustic Edge Institute training materials as well the test are included in tuition cost.

Part 1: (37.5 Hours of Lecture/0 Hours of Lab) (5 Days/37.5 Hours) (IE 101, 102, 103 and 104)

Acoustics, Mobile Audio & Video Installations

(AC-101, MAI-101, MVI-101)

Part 2: (37.5 Hours of Lecture/0 Hours of Lab) (5 Days/37.5 Hours) (IE 101, 102, 103 and 104)

Mobile Security Installation

(MS-101, MS-102)

You will be spending a small part of this course in the class studying basic alarm wiring, relay theory, door lock interface devices and other components used in the mobile security industry.  The remainder of the time will be spent  in the install bay installing mobile security on various vehicles.  Students will have the opportunity to install a security system on their own vehicles at an additional equipment cost. Following, you will go a little deeper into mobile security and cover the convenient accessories portion of mobile security.  The course will cover  window modules, multiple relay circuits, engine immobilizer circuits, multiplex wiring, door pops, remote sunroof, motorizing a trunk lid and the other various types of sensors that are used today.  The tuition includes some of your lab materials and text books. IF you don’t have your own alarm or remote start alarm you can purchase that from us at an additional cost.

Part 3: (14 Hours of Lecture / 23.5 Hours of Lab) (5 Days/37.5 Hours) (MS 101 and MS 102)

Enclosure Design & Construction and Router Fabrication

(EDC 101, 102, 103 and RF 101)

In this program we will be covering the operation and safety of the various powered and non-powered tools used in the 12 volt industry. Knowing proper tool usage will help you better understand how the tools do the work, and not you. You will then learn measurements, angles, airspace calculation with just a calculator as well as computer aided software and proper construction techniques. We will go over all the “PROS” and “CONS” of sealed, ported, bandpass and all other types of enclosures. You will be designing and building a custom enclosure with all the proper techniques involved.  You will also learn how to finish your enclosure with a raised speaker grill, acrylic insert along with vinyl inlays and vinyl graphics. Carpeting techniques will be covered in this program as well. As you continue on becoming a custom fabricator, you will discover the many uses of a Router. First, you will become familiar with the router and the various bits used, then you will be working with them to complete another project. You will be using plexi glass (acrylic), vinyl, grill cloth and wood to complete your router project. You will build your own enclosure, surface mount panel and speaker grills. All this knowledge that you have been taught on will be taken with you on that successful interview. Included in tuition are all your shop project materials, and text books.

Part 4: (9 Hours of Lecture / 28.5 Hours of Lab) (5 Days/37.5 Hours) (EDC 101, 102, 103 and RF 101)
